Overview: The Ministry of Health will vaccinate about two million older adults against pneumococcus during this year, in order to protect them from this disease and reduce the damage from a possible contagion by Covid-19.

Evidence/Justification: The director of the Department of Immunizations of the Minsa, María Elena Martínez, pointed out that the Minsa seeks to strengthen the immune system of this vulnerable group, which are adults over 60 years of age and people with some comorbidity (hypertensive, diabetic people, with morbid obesity or asthmatics).
He added that this population group only needs one dose of the pneumococcal vaccine to be protected for life against pneumonia and other acute respiratory diseases such as meningitis.
