30 March 2020 – Shelters and temporary/transitional housing services exempted from gathering limitations for essential services

Type of Intervention: Executive Order
Sectors Involved: Social Services
Intervention Categories: Social and physical distancing measures; Gatherings, businesses, and services
Level of Jurisdiction: Alberta
Lead People/Agency: Chief Medical Officer of Health

Overview: This intervention provided exemptions from Order 07-2020 to allow gatherings of more than 15 people in shelters and temporary or transitional housing facilities in relation to essential services only. Non-essential gatherings of more than 15 people were still prohibited. Operators of these locations were also required to move clients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases to isolation spaces to prevent the transmission. The intended effect of this policy was to allow these services to operate as essential in order to ensure those who are vulnerably housed still have the option to use these temporary housing locations.
