Overview: The Ontario government has extended all emergency orders currently in force, made under s.7.0.2(4) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to July 22, 2020. The government intends to extend emergency orders to align with its Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Approach to COVID-19) Act, 2020, if this legislation is passed. This proposed legislation is part of the government’s plan to reopen Ontario in a cautious manner, recognizing the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, even after emergency orders are lifted. If passed, the legislation would allow easing of restrictions where appropriate while maintaining certain tools to address the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
