Overview: Order 09-2020: This intervention further restricts the ability of people to visit health care facilities (including hospitals, nursing homes, supportive living accommodations, lodge accommodations, and residential addiction treatment services) in Alberta. Persons deemed as essential visitors (an essential visitor is someone who is over the age of 18 and is designated by the resident or is the resident’s alternate decision maker) may only visit a resident if they are providing essential care needs that would otherwise be unmet. Other visitors may visit when a resident is dying, but only one person may visit the resident at any one time. Visitors must wear a face mask at all times in the health care facility and must be actively screened for COVID-19 prior to entering the facility. This intent of this intervention in to protect the health of residents and staff in the health care facilities, especially those more vulnerable to COVID-19.
