Overview: Ontario is extending its provincial Declaration of Emergency to June 30, 2020 under s.7.0.7 of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. This order is a continuation of enforcement of all previous emergency orders. This decision was made in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario and intends to support efforts to respond to COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of citizens as the province gradually reopens.

Evidence/Justification: This order was taken under the advice of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the public health experts working in collaboration with him. The government explains a number of reasons to continue the emergency order, including providing hospitals and long-term care homes flexibility to respond to COVID-19 and protect vulnerable people, the redeployment of staff to where they are most needed, enabling public health units to redeploy and/or hire staff to support case management and contact tracing, and preventing unfair price gouging for necessary items.
