Overview: 70% of those surveyed in the COSMO-Spain study on perception of COVID-19 would be vaccinated against coronavirus
The Carlos III Health Institute (Spanish acronym: ISCIII) has published the first round of the COSMO-Spain study this week, coordinated by the ISCIII through the National Epidemiological Centre (Spanish acronym: CNE), and promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The work, which seeks to gather information on the knowledge and perception of risk of the population regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, and which published its first preliminary results last month, is being carried out in another 31 countries. It is hoped that its results, which will be completed over the course of the year with new rounds of surveys, will help tackle the epidemic by contributing important and up-to-date information so as to design health strategies and campaigns to raise awareness.
The results of this first round show new data on concerns, activities, interests and knowledge of the Spanish people regarding the epidemic, the virus and the disease.
As regards the potential vaccines that are being developed, 71% of those surveyed stated that they would use them when available and indicated by the health authorities. Furthermore, 59% responded that they would download a free tracing app on their mobile phone that would warn them if they may have been infected by the coronavirus/COVID19.
