07 April 2020 – Permitted local governments to use digital decision-making

Overview: The Dutch Government has passed an urgent law (the Digital Deliberation Act) allowing local governments, such as municipal and provincial councils, to deliberate and make decisions digitally.

Previously, digital decision-making has not been legally possible in the Netherlands. The new law applies until 1 September 2020, and can be extended by a maximum of two months.
