Overview: The German Interior Minister Seehofer ordered far-reaching entry restrictions at Germany’s Schengen external borders to further reduce the risk of infection by the coronavirus. This applies to international air and sea traffic for travel connections that originate outside the European Union.
The regulation applies immediately, initially for 30 days. German nationals are not affected by this regulation.
Nationals of EU states as well as their family members and citizens of Great Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland as well as their family members are allowed to enter the country of origin or residence for the purpose of transit.
Also excluded from the restrictions are third-country nationals with a long-term right of residence in an EU state and the aforementioned states, provided they return to the place of their usual residence. Third-country nationals who do not meet this requirement will be turned back at the border if there is no urgent reason for entry. Third-country nationals who do not fulfil this condition shall be turned back at the border in the absence of an urgent reason for entry.
Travellers are requested to carry documentary evidence of the need to cross the border if there is an urgent reason for entry.
