Overview: The German Federal Government and the heads of government of the German states agreed guidelines for a uniform approach to further restricting social contact to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Certain services may remain open, including food retail outlets, weekly markets, pick-up and delivery services, beverage markets, pharmacies, medical supply stores, drugstores, petrol stations, banks and savings banks, post offices, hairdressers, dry cleaners, laundries, newspaper sales, DIY, gardening and pet supplies stores and wholesale. These services must follow hygiene rules and avoid queues.
Restaurants and the like must minimise the risk of spreading the coronavirus by maintaining distance between customers, and close by 6pm.
All healthcare facilities will remain open in compliance with the increased hygiene requirements, and visits will be limited.
Other facilities must close, including bars, theatres, museums and other entertainment venues, sports and recreation facilities, and playgrounds.
Meetings of clubs, sports groups and similar events are banned, as are meetings in churches, mosques, synagogues and the meetings of other faith communities.
Whether educational facilities remain open is decided on a state by state basis, but people who have been in risk areas in the previous 14 days may not attend.
Overnight accommodation may only be used for necessary purposes and not tourism.
