20 March 2020 – President announces solidarity plan to provide social assistance to vulnerable people and families

Overview: It is an emergency and relief plan of social assistance for those affected by the global pandemic of COVID-19. The most vulnerable Panamanians, affected by the implemented measures due the national emergency will benefit from it. Approximately 1,350,000 families. Does not participate of the benefits of the Panama Solidarity Plan; the public servants/ government officials, those who maintain their jobs in the Private Sector and retirees.
Main components of the Plan are: 1. Solidarity Bonus: delivery of monetary resources so that people can meet their priority needs in the purchase of food and medicine, either through physical vouchers or transfers through the personal identity card. 2. Food Bags:
bags that the government delivers to people with some basic necessities from the basic basket.3. Donations: are the different monetary or in-kind contributions of food, health, cleaning, home, transportation, and accommodation products, among others, that individuals, companies or organizations can give to provide for the people in need.
