Overview: Integration of police forces to protect the borders against COVID-19. A group of 600 agents of the Judicial Investigation Department (Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica) went to the border areas in the north and south of the country to support by air, land, and water to other police forces of the Executive branch. Since March 19, these police forces have carried out the “Safe Borders” operation without interruption, in the context of the emergency due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19. The magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice agreed to approve the participation of judicial investigators in border control work, until May 11.
