21 April 2020 – Parents advised to keep children home during school closures

Lead People/Agency: The main decision maker is the Hon. Prime Minister, Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama, and Minister for Education, Hon Rosy Akbar is leading the implementation of the intervention. .

Overview: The intervention involved parents being advised to keep their children at home. The targeted audience is children and their parents. The intended effect of this intervention is to ensure that children stay home and not to contract COVID-19.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Rosy Akbar is disappointed that despite numerous reminders for parents to keep children at home in this crisis, complaints continue to be received of children loitering in towns and cities.
Some of the actions done by the Ministry to keep children home and to keep them occupied:
(i) Students are not allowed to use their subsidized school bus blue card
(ii) Teachers are required to provide supplementary resources materials that will be accessible online.
(iii) Students are encouraged to stay tuned to Radio Fiji One and Radio Fiji Two for the daily radio programs
