19 March 2020 – Extended COVID-free certificate requirement to cover all arriving travellers

Intervention Categories: International travel measures
Level of Jurisdiction: National

Overview: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand required passengers travelling to Thailand to produce a health certificate, validated within the previous 72 hours, confirming they are COVID-19 free.

These restrictions apply to countries identified for ongoing local transmission (the UK, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States).

This is in addition to China, Macau, Hong Kong, Iran and Italy and South Korea, who were already the subject of strict arrival controls.

These requirements did not initially apply to returning Thai nationals, who were required to submit only a certificate declaring them fit to fly and a letter issued by the local Thai embassy confirming their nationality.

The requirements were later expanded to all foreign nationals entering Thailand and all Thai nationals returning to the country.
