29 April 2020 – Introduction of sanctions for failing to comply with vehicle passenger and face mask restrictions

Overview: The Supreme Committee for Health and National Safety, headed by the resigned Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, held a meeting and announced several decisions such as:

– The imposition of sanctions against violators by detaining the vehicle and imposing a fine of 50,000 dinars on mass transport vehicles with a capacity exceeding four passengers.

– The imposition of 50,000 dinars fine on the saloon vehicle drivers who carry more than three passengers or allows passengers who do not wear a face mask in the car. The car may be impounded if the violation of rules is repeated.

-The imposition of 10,000 dinars on every individual who does not wear a protective mask outside the home. People who temporarily do not have masks are allowed to fully cover their nose and mouth with fabric.

-The maximum allowable limit in shops is one customer for every five square meters of the space allocated to the customers. The shop keeper must prevent the entry to those who do not wear a face mask. Upon violation of those rules, the shop may be closed and a fine of 100,000 dinars will be imposed on the shop keeper.

– The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Security Agency will assess the extent of compliance with the procedures and report on them within 7 days in order to review the imposition of a comprehensive curfew or take additional measures according to the evolution of the epidemiological situation
