26 February 2020 – Kurdistan declares public holiday for schools and universities, screens all tourists

Overview: The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to declare a public holiday to all public and private schools and kindergartens (from February 26 to March 10) and to all universities (from February 29 to March 10) in the region of Kurdistan.

Entering the Kurdistan region was only going to be allowed following medical checks. Tourists entering the region will be screened and their movement limited.

The government of Kurdistan ensured that the essential products will be stocked in the shops and people will continue to be able to access them. The KRG also ensured that the prices of goods will not be manipulated and that actions will be taken against anyone who attempts to do so.

Financial support was to be bestowed to local bodies working with the ministry of interior and health.
