Sectors Involved: Environment, Health, Media/Arts/Culture, Social Services, Supply Chains, Tourism, Transportation
Level of Jurisdiction: National
Lead People/Agency: National Council for Combating Corona Virus is the leading body to announce, regulate, and adjust the rules and steps of this policy.

Overview: Social distancing rules were defined and announced as a quick intervention to slow down the rising pace of corona viruses in Iran. In the first step, all the provinces in Iran performed checkouts in the entry points of cities (checkpoints) to ensure that non-locals could not pass through the borders. In addition, a list of primary employments was developed which allowed the necessary professions and activities (e.g. groceries, pharmacies, and hospitals) to keep working under strict regulations. Further, all the mass gatherings (formal or informal) including weekly Friday prayers, were canceled and people were informed not to participate in such occasions. The first phase was in force till April 18, 2020.
