Overview: The Government of South Africa requested that employers adopt its guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Key requests under the guidelines include considering the use of personal protective equipment, implementing hygiene practices, and encouraging sick workers to stay at home.

The guidelines are not legally binding at this stage, although they affect an employer”s obligation to maintain a safe workplace under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
