18 March 2020 – Government adopts response plan including closing schools and churches

Overview: Congolese government adopt response plan including the following measures:

1. the closure of places of worship;

2. the closure of pre-school, primary, general secondary, technical and vocational education establishments, as well as higher education establishments, both public and private;

3. the closing of bars-dancing, night clubs and establishments commonly known as VIPs and cellars;

4. the prohibition of meetings or gatherings of more than 50 people;

5. the celebration, in the strictest privacy, of all family events (weddings, funeral vigils, etc.).

These measures are valid for thirty (30) days, starting on March 19, 2020. They are renewable if necessary.

Evidence/Justification: 18 March 2020. The government totalized two new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the national territory. In light of these new elements and on the instruction of the President of the Republic, Head of State, the Government has taken the following additional measures:
1. the closure of places of worship;
2. the closure of pre-school, primary, general secondary, technical and vocational education establishments, as well as higher education establishments, both public and private;
