Overview: There messages circulating on social networks informing that road enforcement authorities are demanding the use of protective masks for the nose and mouth of all drivers and users of motor vehicles, as a measure to prevent the spread of the pandemic COVID -19.

In order to avoid distortions in the scope of the COVID-19 prevention measures in force, the National Institute of Land Transport should clarified the following:

– The use of protective masks for the nose and mouth is mandatory in all public and private transport and in clusters of people, according to the preventive measures approved at the Session of the Council of Ministers, of April 8, 2020.

– For the application of this measure, public and private transport is understood to mean all remunerated passenger transport activity, whether privately or publicly owned.

– Drivers of private vehicles that do not engage in paid passenger transport are not covered by the mandatory use of masks.
