Overview: The president in his update charged the citizens to adhere to the earlier directives. Additional measures included the invocation of the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012), restricting movement of persons in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA, which includes Awutu Senya East), and the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and contiguous districts, for a period of two (2) weeks (partial lockdown), subject to review. Movements are restricted except for the acquisition of food, medicine, water, banking transactions and to use the public toilet. There shall be, during this period, no inter-city movement of vehicles and aircrafts for private or commercial purposes for the areas of the restrictive measures, except for vehicles and aircrafts providing essential services and those carrying cargo. Riders of motorbikes are not allowed to carry any additional person, and all intra-city passenger vehicles, such as trotros and taxis, must reduce the number of passengers in order to observe appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols. The president announced that it will make available GH₵1 billion to households and businesses during the lockdown.This the president said will be contained in a “Coronavirus Alleviation Programme” which he had tasked the Finance Minister to prepare for the approval of parliament. He said the “Coronavirus Alleviation Programme” will address the disruption in economic activities, the hardship of the people, and to rescue and revitalize our industries.

Evidence/Justification: The directive was based on the three previous updates on the 13th, 15th and 17th of March. As of the 26th of March,confirmed COVID 19 cases had moved from two on as announced on the 13th of March to fifty-four (54) cases including three (3) deaths as indicated by the Ghana Health Service. All the three (3) cases that unfortunately succumbed to the disease were aged and had underlying chronic medical conditions. All the other fifty-one (51) surviving cases are well; fourteen (14) are being managed at home and the rest are responding well to treatment on admission in isolation.In respect of contact tracing, a total of 970 contacts have been identified and are being tracked. Out of these, two hundred and four (204) have completed the 14 days mandatory follow up. The Ghana Health Service, Ghana Medical Association among others advised Government to lockdown the two regions that had been identified as epicentres of the disease
