Topic: Alina’s dissertation looked at the power of the state in pandemics, comparing responses to the 1918 and 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemics, exploring how the language of warfare is used against microbes, and drawing lessons from history, some potentially relevant to today’s pandemic.
