08 May 2020 – Government lifts prohibition on alcoholic beverages distribution, sale and consumption

Overview: Executive decree that modifies article 7 of executive decree 507 of March 24, 2020, by which the prohibition of the distribution, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages was established while the state of emergency lasts. Said modification AUTHORIZES the distribution, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages throughout the national territory in a controlled manner, where each person over 18 years old can only buy 1 six pack of beer or 1 bottle of wine or 1 bottle of liquor only, during their authorized time allottment.
The temporary closure of sports, recreation and / or recreation places and premises, established in article 1 of ED No.489 of March 16, 2020, and the limitations imposed on the residents of buildings or houses established in article 2 of ED No. 489 of March 16, 2020, are still standing. The generation of noise through the use of sound equipment and or similar equipments is prohibited, beyond the current sanitary provisions.

Evidence/Justification: The health minister referred to the issue after circulating an alleged statement from the Ministry of the Presidency on social networks, where it was reported that the distribution, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the country was immediately allowed.
Also evidence of contraband, counterfeiting has being detected and the elaboration of alcohol in an artisanal way without any sanitary control, presents a health risk.
