Overview: President chaired a fifth consultative session with key representatives of Government and private sector stakeholders at State House. During the session, there was a presentation on the proposed establishment of a company called Seychelles Employee Transition Scheme (SETS) to support those made redundant following the economic impacts of COVID-19. The main objective of the company would be to facilitate retraining, up-skilling, and temporary work placement services, supporting re-entry into the labour market as job openings become available whilst providing financial support. A second presentation followed on Revised Employment Programmes, including the Skills Development Programme, My First Job scheme and the Unemployment Relief Scheme (URS). Based on the economic situation of the country, the Department of Employment felt there was a need to review the programmes and ensure there are incentives for both the employer as well trainees and other participants. The Department also proposed an Internship programme for the University graduates with an allowance, as well as an internship programme for participants under the My First Job scheme who have completed further education at STA, SMTC, and SIT among others.
